Barry grew up in the goldfields of Smythesdale, where he now runs a studio.
After a career as an engineer, Barry followed his interest in clay to train with master potter Peter Pilven at Ballarat University.
He has always been influenced by the local landscape with its bush, mineshafts, forest and clay pits. This interest has been augmented by studies in Japan with prominent potters, evident in his teapots, beakers, bottles and bowls.
Barry has had solo exhibitions and residencies in Australia and Canada and his works are represented in the Ballarat Art Gallery Collection.
Bookbinding and sculptural forms also feature in Barry's oeuvre. ( we are hoping he will run a bookbinding workshop at this gallery in the near future).
More details about Barry and his creative output can be found at át 'Red Echidna Studios' website.
