John has lived in the Tara valley South Gippsland where he built a house, studio and gallery, devoted to his wood fired pottery.
When not teaching and interacting with family, John constructed a kiln and followed his passion and fascination with the chance aspects of the firing process on the clay.
He has experimented with a variety of natural additives, local and japanese glazes and the creation of ash glazes from the use of native hardwood offcuts in the kiln process.
John has exhibited extensively. His works are featured in the Gippsland Regional Art Gallery. the Monash University collection and the Australian Archives for 100 influential Australian Potters.
Currently, John lectures in Ceramics at Federation University, Churchill Campus.
